Record natural gas production from the Marcellus shale is helping send U.S. output to an all-time high, as drilling productivity continues to rise, according to the latest info from the US Energy Information Administration.
In other news, Pennsylvania remains the largest state producer of natgas without a severance tax.
It's hardly the case that the former is because of the latter, as the industry endlessly suggests. (Hint: PA's Marcellus is the largest gas-in-place reservoir in the US - and maybe on earth.) The imposition of a severance tax in Pennsylvania would change nothing - except improve the state's fiscal health, and silly, nonessential things like public education.
